Deborah D.Gray, author of Attaching in Adoption says:
"Lyn Marx has developed the supportive resource that parents have been asking for--on-line, professional guidance for parents whose children need extra help in attachment processes. Lyn has the professional and personal credentials that make this program's foundation a solid one. Her program supplements therapy for children, supporting parents as they go the distance in helping their children with attachment and behavior. Congratulations Lyn for developing this resource for families. I anticipate that many families will be greatly benefitted."
"Welcome to my cyber'office', I'm so glad you found me. If we were meeting in person you would find me shaking your hand warmly and a comfortable chair to sit in. I want you to find my 'virtual' office as comfortable to be in as you would find my office."
Cybercounseling is a new opportunity to have your therapist come to your home [and I don't care if it's clean or not] anytime you want, or at least you have the option to write anytime you want and I will give you a time frame to expect a reply. There's a lot of information included on this site to help you decide if this will work for you and also some information that could be helpful, whether you 'see' me for 'cybercounseling' or not.
Let me tell you a little about myself and how I got into cybercounseling... For more than 20 years I have worked predominantly with children/teens and increasingly with parents too, providing therapy and parent education. I've worked with victims of domestic violence, as a school counselor, and predominately as a child and family therapist with a diverse population. Thirteen years ago I adopted my oldest daughter, who was 5 at the time---my life changed. [Do I see a look of recognition on your face?] I had been teaching parenting classes and suddenly realized that I had no idea what it was like to parent 24-7. In March 2001 I adopted another daughter, an infant, who is now 8.
After being a parent for about 6 years I started seeing more kids in my therapy practice that were adopted and their families too. I decided to take the Post-graduate Certificate Training through Portland State University (P.S.U.) in Therapy with Children Who are Adopted and their Families. This was wonderful and my caseload became 80% kids who are adopted or in foster care...
a-n-d...their families.
Then, I discovered on-line therapy and thought, "What a great way for adoptive families to get support *at their fingertips* in a nonthreatening environment." As an adoptive parent myself, I thought I could especially be helpful to other adoptive parents. I found a course in 'Cybercounselling' through Toronto University, Canada and after 8 months I completed Levels 1 and 2.
I receive group and individual consultation with Deborah Gray, author of Attachment in Adoption and Nurturing Adoption.
